The best gift that you can give  to an orphaned child is education.  Since 2000, Sinethemba trust has therefore been running a bursary program for orphaned children in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.  

The bursary program seeks to achieve two objectives:  to make it possible for orphaned children in primary/high school whose guardians are too poor to afford tuition fees/school uniforms to get basic education;  to offer such orphaned children with the support services that they require to complete their primary/high school with good results, especially in Maths and sciences.
